Inspections and Progress at Carroll St

Things are really moving along well over at the Carroll St house. We passed our major inspections yesterday which was a big milestone for the house work. All the major systems inspections (framing, rough plumbing, mechanical, and electrical) passed which allows us to move on to insulating in preparation for sheetrock work. Once we had the green light to insulate, we quickly made good progress on that yesterday (7/1). The plan is to finish the insulation today (7/2) and have the insulation inspected tomorrow (7/3) so that sheetrock work can begin over the weekend. If we are able to keep this schedule, it bodes well for staying on target for the end of this month to have the house finished. The tech wiring was completed yesterday in prepartion for insulation and sheetrock as well.

The garage work was put on hold while we focused on the house to get past the inspections for the house itself. Garage work resumes tomorrow with the goal of having the framing inspection for the garage late next week.

Next week we are also supposed to have the new gas fireplace installed. In preparation for that, we had the fireplace box framed in so that the new fireplace will be flush with the interior wall giving more space to the Great Room than  it originally had (the old fireplace was bulky and stuck out into the room somewhat).  The fireplace box on the outside of the house gives a similar look as the old chimney (we used the same width dimensions) without it sticking up above the roofline. We like the look quite a bit. We'll post pictures of the new fireplace once its installed along with pictures of the rooms in the with sheetrock next week.
