Things are moving steadily along on many things at the house on 395 Carroll St in Sunnyvale. Electrical work has started and progressed quickly. All the outlet and switch boxes have been set, the recessed lighting is in, and wire has been pulled to most of the locations of the house. In a couple days we should be able to turn on the lights at the house! The skylight for the kitchen was framed in this week. It is a pretty big skylight that will provide nice additional daylight to the kitchen area. We also decided to add one new window to the side of the house where the dining area of the Great Room will be. This used to be an extra door that was planned to be removed and just become wall space. In addition to wall space, it will also provide one more window for more bright daylight for the Great Room. The new garage is taking shape as well. The garage now has the front and back walls built, the ceiling and the roof framing partially in place so it is beginning to look like a real building... a real big building! With 22 feet long x 22 feet wide and 10 foot ceilings in the garage, it is quite an impressive space that has lots of potential for different uses. Bye Bye Chimney... The old chimney on the side of the house was removed this week, along with the old wood burning fireplace. Even though the original fireplace and chimney added some character and style to the house, the chimney was deemed unsafe and beyond reasonable repair. We also wanted to convert the home to be more environmentally friendly which means removing the wood burning pollution source. In its place will be a nice gas burning fireplace that does not produce any air pollution emmissions but still creates the same cozy effect from the inside as the original did (without the cost of wood or ash cleanup as well). We will be building a new fireplace mantel surround for the gas fireplace that has some of the charm of the original before things are complete. Doors and Windows coming
The door style was settled upon this week for both the front and back doors as well as the interior doors. They were ordered and should be coming in the next week or so. We'll post a picture of the door style on the interior design page once we have them. Windows should be coming this next week. We'll post pictures of the new exterior look once they are in place.
